Ken Simonson

Program: Construction Spending, Labor and Materials Outlook—The construction industry has enjoyed sustained growth, supported by a relatively low unemployment rate, strong demand in both residential and nonresidential markets, and the Federal Reserve’s 2024 interest rate cuts. As the new year begins, questions remain about whether this momentum will continue. This presentation will provide the latest insights into current market conditions and economic expectations for construction in 2025.

Presenter: Macrina Wilkins, Sr. Research Analyst, AGC of America. She serves as a speaker within the industry, sharing her knowledge on trends in the labor, spending and material markets. Her work has been published in trade magazines and industry reports focusing on topics related to economic trends impacting contractors.

Dr. Eric Thompson

Program: Nebraska Economic Outlook—Eric will discuss trends in the cost of inputs to the construction industry including building material, labor and lots. The analysis will consider the inflation in these costs over recent years but also focus on more recent trends in the last 12 months.

Presenter: Dr. Eric Thompson, Department Chair, K.H. Nelson College Professor of Economics and the Director of the Bureau of Business Research at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Eric’s research examines the sources and consequences of state and local economic growth and the economics of infrastructure.
