The numbers are jolting! Construction workers commit suicide at three times the national average. More American construction workers die by suicide than from job site injuries or accidents. Construction has the second highest suicide rate of any industry. Learn to recognize the warning signs and how to get help for someone in crisis.

Presenters include:

Sherri Dawson

Sheri Dawson, R.N., is the Director of the Division of Behavioral Health in the Department of Health and Human Services. She was appointed by Governor Pete Ricketts effective August 12, 2015.

Sheri had served as acting director of the division since early 2015. Since joining the DHHS in 2001, Sheri has held several different roles within the department, including Deputy Director of Community-Based Services, QI and Managed Care Administrator, Program Specialist and Nurse Surveyor/Consultant.

She has been recognized as Supervisor of the Year and Employee of the Year during her tenure at DHHS.

Previous to her time at the Division of Behavioral Health, Sheri worked as a Nurse Manager at Lincoln General Hospital, now known as Bryan Medical Center-West, in Lincoln, and was a Nurse Instructor at Willow Brook Private Psychiatric Hospital in Waxahachie, Texas.

Sheri earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences for Nurses from Nebraska Wesleyan University, and graduated with distinction from the Bryan Hospital School of Nursing.

Dan Dwyer

Dan Dwyer is a Compliance Assistance Specialist (CAS) for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). He started with OSHA in 2016 as a Compliance Safety and Health Officer specializing in Safety. In 2020 he was promoted to be the CAS where his responsibilities include providing general information about OSHA standards, speaking at seminars, workshops, or event, and promoting OSHA’s cooperative programs.

Prior to joining OSHA, Dan served 26 years in the U.S. Air Force before retiring in 2016. While in the Air Force he worked in the Bioenvironmental Engineering career field conducting and supervising Occupational Health and Industrial Hygiene programs. He also served as a Superintendent for professional military education school where he oversaw all schoolhouse operations.

Dan was born in Chicago, Illinois and grew up in the northwest Indiana area. During his time in the Air Force he earned his bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health from Columbia Southern University.

Julia Hebenstreit, J.D.

Molly Woodman is one of the Outreach Coordinators at The Kim Foundation. Born and raised in Omaha, she earned her bachelor’s degree in Communications from UNO. Molly spent fourteen years as the Director of Admissions and Recruitment at an area private high school. Her passion for public speaking and advocacy led her to The Kim Foundation in August of 2022. Molly manages the foundation’s social media accounts, works closely with the Metro Area Suicide Prevention Coalition, and provides mental health awareness and suicide prevention education to the community through the Voice for Hope and Healing presentations. The Kim Foundation is funded by the Larry and Kathy Courtnage family in honor of Larry’s daughter, Kim. The foundation was established to give back to the community and to facilitate change in the behavioral health field.
